Sunday School will include an inspirational presentation, N.A.V.Y. Veteran: A Man
Plans His Steps and God Laughs, by Jim Hutson. Jim served in the US Navy aboard the United States Navy Ship New Bedford. After returning to Michigan, he served with a Military Police unit in Taylor and then at Selfridge National Guard Base.
After serving his country, Jim enrolled at Concordia University Ann Arbor. He graduated in 2015 with a degree in Family Life Ministry and served in this capacity at two parishes in Ohio.
It was during his time in Ohio that Jim developed an extremely rare โcancer-likeโ disease that was related to a virus he contracted while in the military. Jim was not expected to survive. After eight months in the hospital, he returned home. The Navy provided him with a pension and a permanent disability status of 100%. The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod categorized him โemeritus.โ
In spite of his disability, Jim continues to serve his Lord and Savior and trusts that God will always find a place for him to do work for the Kingdom. He holds complete confidence in the verse, โGod has plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.โ (Jeremiah 29:11)
Come hear Jimโs incredible story of how God has walked with him through his illness and all of lifeโs ups and downs.
